Okay, now for the stories! The Redmans were lucky enough to camp next to a family of crazies, particularly the woman... she was friendly to the point of stalkerish. It seemed that every time you turned around, there she was! Petting my dogs behind our camper, bringing me towels that I had left in the campsite for approximately 15 seconds, asking Jamie if her big group had left her when we were merely across the street... classic signs. Jamie even requested an escort to the bathroom after Stalker Sally turned up in there just about every time she went! On Sunday as we were packing up, the crazy family was ready to pull out. They said their goodbyes and the woman waved at us as they drove down the street. When we finished packing up, we decided to drive over the dam and take one last hike on the Trailway. About 1/2 mile into the hike, we see a small group up ahead, coming our way. One of the people was wearing odd clothing and had a slight limp, and I thought, "It couldn't be." Suddenly, as if on cue, the person started waving enthusiastically... sure enough, our stalker! As they caught up to us and we said our goodbyes AGAIN, she ominously stated, "See you here next year!"
We also visited a haunted hotel, the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. It was creepy and sad, because the building has been allowed to deteriorate since the 1960s, and you could see that it was once beautiful and elaborate. Most of the window panes were broken out, and as we peered inside, we could feel cold drafts of air coming out. Yikes! Jimmy says he would be willing to break in and stay a night if someone will go with him, so let me know if you're interested.
Our final adventure in Mineral Wells was visiting the former home of Noah Lee Bennett, my dad's grandfather and Noah's namesake. We got this picture of Noah running away from the house. Luckily, the current owners did not come out and ask why we were taking pictures of their house.
