If you've been around Noah the past couple of Christmases, you know he's enchanted with all things "Polar Express." He would watch the movie year-round if I'd let him. He draws the Polar Express on the back of his papers at school. He even taught himself the theme song on the piano! I thought, before the magic wears off for him, it would be a worthwhile experience to go up to Grapevine and ride their version, the "North Pole Express." It runs on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, and the cars dating from 1925 are all decked out for Christmas each year! We bought our tickets early (out of necessity) and kept it a secret. Yesterday, I casually mentioned that it might be fun to go look at lights with Mamie and Papa. The kids got in their pajamas and we piled in to Mamie's car for the drive to Grapevine, on which both kids professed to be bored and wanted to go home. When we arrived, though, their eyes lit up at the prospect of riding on a shuttle van from the parking lot, and then Noah spotted the train before ours. That's when I asked him if it would be cool to go on that train, and his eyes were like saucers! It was so fun! While we waited, we walked around the "Christmas Capital of Texas," got our FREE pictures with Santa, and bought ornaments, a snow globe, and a snowflake wand. (The kids wanted to spend birthday money, apparently.)
Soon, it was time for the 8:00 train to the North Pole!
We were visited by Mrs. Claus, who gave each child a silver "Believe" bell!
When we arrived at the North Pole, it was snowing!
We were entertained by elves and Santa Claus...
...and afterwards, we all got our own mug of "Frosty's Snow Milk."
We had tons of fun and it was a magical time!
