Saturday, en route to Amarillo, we stopped to see Capulin Volcano National Monument in New Mexico. Again, earning junior ranger badges was a must!
We hiked the rim of the volcano crater, taking in panoramic views of other dormant and extinct cinder cones and lava fields.

We got back to the ranger station just in the nick of time to take the junior ranger oath!
Almost to Amarillo, we were getting hungry and found a highly recommended steakhouse in Dalhart, TX called XIT Woodfire Grill. Oh man, this place was reasonably priced and DELICIOUS! It was a great welcome back to the best state in the USA.
Sunday morning was nerve-wracking as we woke to high-gusting wind speeds and knew we would be driving through some of the flattest parts of Texas. We took our time and took the Mini Cooper off the Winnebago to minimize issues. This was the same day that the "microburst" wind storm came through the metroplex and caused a lot of damage, so we were glad we took precautions.
Our last stop for gas before we split up from each other... it was sad to see this epic adventure come to an end! We thank God for keeping us safe and creating such a beautiful world we live in.
