I went to Jimmy and Courtney's house on Callahan's first birthday to do a photo shoot!
Callahan takes a little while to warm up, but in the meantime, he makes hilarious faces!
He's hard to contain! If we didn't have him in a chair, it would be nearly impossible to snap a photo of him.
Henry and Stephanie showed up with a smash cake, and Henry brought along his Bible and a tape measure. You should always be prepared.
Bella immediately located her Bible and her mom's tape measure, too.
Back to Cal, contained on the chair... for a minute.
Side note: I was working with my new D750 camera and lens, and it was exciting to have my old camera (D3200) and my prime lens also handy to switch back and forth! The photos with the blurrier background were taken on my older camera to get the shallow depth of field, like the next few photos.

He's such a mama's boy!
We tried to get a few with Bella, which is always a fun challenge. (Also: back to the new camera but the lens only opens up to f/4 as opposed to the f/1.8 lens I used above.)

It doesn't get much cuter than this!
Cal seemed to know that cake was for him.
Luckily, we didn't light the candle, since he tasted it first.
The cake topper was Jamie's, used for all three of her kids' first birthdays!
Well, no one thought to give him a fork, so...

Soon Callahan realized he had an audience.

This one reminds me of Audrey. Such a ham!
Next, he tried smacking the cake with an open palm.
Bella just couldn't stand it any longer, and her mom told her she could have some cake, too.
She kindly offered some to Henry.

"Please, sir, may I have some more?"
Quick pause for Bella's Elsa pose:
...back to Cal and the cake.
Your first birthday is the only time in your life where you are super cute with food smeared all over your face.
Happy first birthday, Callahan James!
