A few days ago, we went to San Angelo for a memorial service for Chris' beloved Grandpa Dick. The morning of the service, Jamie got a call from her good friend Charmaine, with the sad news that her husband Jimmy had just passed away. We love this couple so much, and have been blessed by them in many ways. It was a tough day, trying to wrap our minds around these two significant losses.
The funeral for Grandpa Dick that afternoon was intimate and a perfect tribute to such an interesting, kind, amazing man. We were so pleased by the abundance of friends and family who came to pay their respects, and I tried to snap some pictures of a few of them afterwards at the house.

There is something about watching the little kids play that reminded me how beautiful life is, and how incredible it is that my children carry a little of their great-grandpa Dick in them. He left a legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to carry on his stories, his work ethic, his love of family, and his example. We'll miss him so much, and it reminds us of our own mortality, but I find comfort in God's promise that his children will be victorious over death.
"'O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?' The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
