Our annual Memorial Weekend camping trip with the church was FINALLY upon us, after much anticipation! Friday we headed out to Lake Whitney, set up camp, and greeted our church family as they arrived. The kids got to play on scooters and bikes and we even biked to a part of the lake for Noah to swim and Audrey to get her hair shampooed (but it was a little cold). A few of us made s'mores around the big campfire my dad built, and then it was time for bed for these exhausted campers. Saturday we had a continental group breakfast and took the kids down to our little private beach to swim and play in the sand for awhile... until the rain started. It rained all afternoon, and one by one, people began to realize that their tents were flooded or leaking. Then, Clay and Lisa noticed that their pop-up was leaking, and in the process of trying to fix the leak, the pop-up's support cable snapped, making it unsafe for sleeping. They were troupers, and stuck it out another night in Vicki's trailer (dubbed "The Hilton"). Chris also found a small leak in
our Drew & Jamie's trailer. One family packed up their soggy belongings and headed out; others hung sheets and clothes under the pavilion, hoping they would dry out by nightfall. The soup and chili potluck we planned turned out to be quite perfect for the cool and rainy day! No campfire on Saturday night, but we woke up to a reprieve from the rain for most of Sunday. We cooked a big, hearty breakfast and held our worship service, then took advantage of the sun peeking out to ride bikes, play on the playground, and swim in the lake. Sadly, most of us thought it wise to pack up the campers and tents on Sunday afternoon rather than face the imminent prospect of packing up in the rain on Monday. So, our camping trip was cut short but we continuously thanked God for the blessing of rain, and we still managed to enjoy the fellowship and companionship despite the change in plans.
