Camp Deer Run

Noah attended his first ever summer camp away from home this year. We chose Camp Deer Run in Winnsboro, TX based on some personal recommendations and the values and structure of the camp. 

We spread the word at church and Noah was joined by his good friends Cody, Levi and Robert, along with another church friend Brooke. We rented a van through our church and most of us parents drove them out to camp on a Sunday afternoon. 

Noah was in a cabin with Cody, and Levi and Robert were assigned a different cabin

No A/C, but the boys said the fans worked well!

We received their cabin assignments, claimed their bunk beds, set up their box fans and bedding, hung hammocks, and then said some (tearful) goodbyes. Audrey had the hardest time leaving her brother behind!

 Throughout the week, we would stalk the Camp Deer Run website looking for photo updates! We could email and mail the campers but didn't have a way to hear from them--only the photos! Here are some I downloaded throughout the week:

 Side note: Noah says he was chased by a wild boar in the woods! Yikes! He also told about going after a girl and that she tripped and got injured. Apparently, that was all caught on camera. 

(The game was boys vs. girls, but the boys' counselors and girls' counselors played on the opposite teams.)

On Friday we made the trek out to east Texas to pick the boys up. They were stinky, tired, full of stories, and snuck some tiny frogs into the van!

At Whataburger, they were all freezing in the A/C after being used to the Texas heat and humidity!

Noah had a super time and wants to go back next year. He made lots of friends, lots of memories, and learned more about God.
