A Garage Sale to Remember

Yesterday we had our first garage sale at our house, where we've now lived for almost four years. Mom contributed some items, along with Diana and Brittany, who threw in her IKEA furniture.

Me + fanny pack = one hot mama
It was an interesting sale all-around, from the people-watching to the lady who lectured Mom for putting signs out before we were open (what's the point of signs if they aren't up early for people to know there's a garage sale? They had the times listed). Chris and I did pretty well, selling some paintball stuff, an old digital camera, a wireless router for the computer that's been sitting in our closet for ages, and lots of little stuff. Diana did okay, too, although I don't think it was quite the clientele to appreciate her fashion tastes and, accordingly, higher prices. One lady (not very fluent in English) wanted to buy a beautiful silk skirt that was marked $4. She offered $2, and Diana went all the way down to $2.50. The lady kept saying, "Two?" and Diana would shake her head. Finally, exasperated, Diana said, "This is like an $80 skirt! It's BCBG!!" The lady just gave her a funny look and gave up. Over 50 cents! Hilarious. Then all those people would be looking at Diana's jeans, and Di was telling them the jeans were $5. They were name brands like GUESS, Express, Abercrombie, etc., but the people seemed to think her prices were crazy. I really got a kick out of women who were like a size 16 or so looking through all Diana's clothes for something they might like.

On the other end of the spectrum was Mom, who brought her stuff over Friday night for us to set up. As we were going through the items, we were absolutely floored at some of the items that she not only kept over the years, but took the time to price and label and haul to our house, as if someone might buy them!! A few examples: a drink koozie with a Texas Bank logo (marked 25 cents), two plastic cups from restaurants, with the logos (10 cents), a broken lunchbox from when Diana was in elementary school with Diana's name sloppily written on it in sharpie for $4, and much, much more. Surprisingly, Mom only made $3 yesterday.

The wind picked up throughout the day and after it blew all our clothes over early in the afternoon, we decided it was time to shut down. Most of everything we didn't sell went to Goodwill, including those jeans Diana wouldn't budge on. Figures.

no hating! LOL, I just didn't know how to tell them that Di's clothes were all like a size 4... trust me, I didn't fit them, either!
