Icemageddon 2013

Thursday evening some freezing rain rolled into north Texas, so Noah, Audrey and I hunkered down (Chris was in Boulder, CO) and counted our blessings, among them electricity (many of my friends lost theirs), Christmas movies, a pantry full of food, and plenty of things to do in the house. Friday the temperature maxed out at 32 degrees, Saturday's high was 26, and Sunday finally got up to the mid-30s in the afternoon. As you might have gathered, the roads were covered in a thick sheet of ice, the trees were breaking from the weight of icicles on their leaves, and all our weekend activities were cancelled. Thank God, Chris made it home safe and sound Friday night after literally sliding sideways on the runway in the airplane. He even stopped and got us some bread and milk!

    

Saturday morning Chris decided the streets were definitely ice-skate-able, so here he goes:

I found Noah crying in his room because he wanted to go outside and play hockey with Daddy, so we bundled him up and put his helmet on. (That's not snow, people. That's solid ice covering all the lawns!) 

By Saturday night, we were kind of tired of digging through the freezer and eating sandwiches, so Chris braved Icepocalypse to find us some fast food! We were so desperate, we settled for Burger King when nothing else nearby was open. Not only were the grocery stores running out of food, but I think the restaurants were having to close down because all their supplies were stuck on freeways in trucks.

Sunday's morning worship was rescheduled to 3 p.m., when some of the ice was finally melting. Chris was supposed to be on a flight to West Virginia, and Drew was coming to take him to the airport in his 4WD truck. Come to realize, Drew's 4WD wasn't working! He and Jamie slid all the way to our house. Yikes! Chris' flight was cancelled, so we all spent a few hours together at our house before Drew and Jamie could make it safely home. After we went to church, we got over to Cha-Cha's for some Mexican food, which is always DELICIOUS in cold weather! Schools were cancelled again today because everything refroze last night, plus we got "ice fog." Seriously, it's crazy around these parts! Chris' boss found him another flight today from a further airport at 11 a.m., so Chris left the house at 6 hoping to make it through the icy roads. I just got a message that his flight was delayed, which means he will miss his connection, so now they RESCHEDULED AGAIN for 6 a.m. tomorrow! Insanity!
