Saturday was our last full day camping at Davis Mountains State Park. We had a lazy morning with some bike rides, walks, checking out the interpretive center, and so on. The kids discovered that they could earn a Texas State Parks junior ranger pin, so they got to work on meeting the requirements.
Dad wanted to take us to lunch at the original Reata restaurant in Alpine, so we headed there around noon!
Lunch was delicious, and they had a lovely patio for us to enjoy yet another gorgeous day!
We strolled around the shops in Alpine, and stopped by one place where Dad noticed some legs sticking out of a blanket in a laundry basket behind the counter. He asked the shop owner what in the world that was, and she produced a baby kangaroo!
Turns out she owns a petting farm near Alpine and raises kangaroos. This was a seven-month-old female they had recently taken from the mother to domesticate it. She was bottle feeding it three times a day, so she brought it to work!
We told Chris and some of the other kids to come and see, and next thing I knew, the shop owner handed the joey over to Chris so that she could ring up our purchases.
We dragged ourselves out of that shop and enjoyed some of the other sights of Alpine, home of Sul Ross University.
Later, back at camp, the kids completed their junior ranger requirements so we walked up to headquarters to take the pledge!

I wanted to squeeze in one more hike and Mom and Dad were game, so we decided to hike a portion of the Skyline Drive trail.
This trail crossed several bridges, so we had to take photos on each bridge, of course.
When we got back to camp, we noticed some javelina hanging around. We teased Tanya that they were coming back to see if she left trash out again like she had the night before.
It was fun to watch these two scrounging for food, and occasionally arguing over something they found!
That evening, we decided to have our own "star party" at a high point in the park. We packed up the telescopes and took the cars up to a point on Skyline Drive, then enjoyed watching the stars come out and trying to photograph them.

It was a fun ending to an amazing week of adventure, family and friends, and awe at the parts of Texas some of us had never experienced.
