Tuesday was our first full day at Davis Mountains State Park. It started as a gorgeous, clear day, so our first order of business was to check out Indian Lodge, an adobe hotel built within the state park by the CCC in the 1930s.
We then took a drive up Skyline Drive for some incredible vistas.
The CCC built this stone overlook "picture window" with a view down to the original site of Fort Davis.

Later in the day, we decided to try our hiking chops on an easy trail, the Montezuma Quail trail.
We started with the Headquarters Trail which connects to the Montezuma Quail Trail.
It was a pretty warm day, so the kids didn't love this trail since it required a bit of uphill and was basically all rocky and the same terrain.
We were looking forward to our reserved Star Party tickets that night at 8:45 at the McDonald Observatory. In fact, we had purchased family memberships months ago in order to secure our spots. Unfortunately, the wind really picked up that day and the sky turned a smoggy tan color from all the dirt and dust in the air. I soon received notification that our Star Party was cancelled due to the high winds and low visibility. Star Parties are extremely popular, especially during Spring Break, and that fact combined with limited space due to COVID-19 protocols meant there was no possibility of rescheduling. We were so disappointed! More on that to come...
