As much of an explanation as I can give: He listened very intently to Jimmy and Courtney's wedding vows, and since the wedding, began asking why the man said Jimmy and Courtney were going to die ('till death do us part?). We explained that they would be married for a long time, until one of them dies. Still, he now connects death with marriage. Baptism is thrown in there as a precursor to Heaven, of course! Funny boy, love him so much.
