Big Bend National Park: Tuesday and Wednesday

We packed up from Monahans Sandhills and continued south to BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK!

Once you get into the park, you drive another hour south to the Rio Grande Village RV park, our home away from home for the week. As we approached, we went through a cool tunnel!

Wednesday 12/28 was Mom's birthday! We decided to check out the Chisos Basin area in the center of the park. First, we visited the Chisos BasinVisitor Center and the Chisos Mountains Lodge and restaurant.

From there, we decided to hike the Window View Trail to see the famous Window.

It was a short trail, so we wanted to do the Chisos Basin Loop Trail. It was a nice hike, but Noah was really struggling with asthma, which put a damper on the whole thing.

After a picnic lunch, we drove back to the Panther Junction Visitor Center for the video and a ranger talk about scorpions. We also did a brief nature trail for the kids' junior ranger booklets.

From there, we drove over to the Fossil Discovery Exhibit.

For dinner, we ate at the only restaurant in the park, located in the Chisos Mountains Lodge! Happy birthday, Mom! After dinner, we drove back to camp for red velvet cake and ice cream. A long but wonderful day!
