Chris, Noah and I just returned from an adventurous weekend camping with my best friends from college, Kristin and Carly, and their fiance and husband (respectively), Brian and Jeff. We were together for a farewell party for our friend Erica a few months ago and dreamed up the idea that we should get together for a camping trip. Kristin and Brian live in Houston and Carly and Jeff live up near us, but none of us sees each other nearly as much as we'd like (and definitely not as much as at TCU).

Fort Parker State Park was the most centralized place, and we couldn't have been luckier. I deem this my favorite state park thus far, with its beautiful lake, tall, shady trees, spacious campsites, playground, and
ceiling fan in the bathroom. Unheard of at a state park. Chris took Friday off so we could load up the trailer and all our gear and get there early for a good spot. Drew and Jamie graciously loaned us their pop-up, so it was our first time taking it out by ourselves! Everything went very smoothly, especially considering the wind on Friday. We spent Friday afternoon setting up, playing with Noah, cooking burgers for dinner, and waiting for our friends to arrive. They all rolled in around 8, and Kristin and Brian got their tent up quickly. Carly and Jeff slept in the trailer with us, and their puppy Snowflake was in her crate under the trailer.

Saturday, after pancakes for breakfast, we enjoyed the cool weather, the playground, and our books (at least some of us). Later that day we took a hike (the 1/2 mile one, after Kristin won that argument) and checked out the historical cemetery. Jeff was a sweetheart and offered to carry Noah on his back for much of the hike. Noah walked a little too, but that was slow going, as he continuously paused to pick up rocks and point out interesting things: "Look, Mommy! Dirt! Oooh, flower! Mommy,
that rock!" Dinner that night was delicious marinated chicken (Carly's recipe), corn-on-the-cob and baked potatoes. Chris already had everything on the grill, smelling yummy, when we returned from our hike. Despite the burn ban, we made s'mores over our charcoal fire (allowed!) and laughed as Noah flipped out about having gooey marshmallow on him. We walked to the fishing pier and took some beautiful shots of the sunset, then ended the evening by playing cards, perusing Kristin's
Jewel Kade jewelry and catalog, and just sharing some laughs in the camper. This morning after breakfast burritos, we packed up and said our goodbyes until June (Kristin's bridal shower!).
